Spring is always a great time for a thorough house clean and refresh. It’s why the term ‘spring cleaning’ exists. But if you’re planning to put your home on the market this season, spring cleaning is more important than ever.
Check out our spring cleaning tips and how to prepare your house for sale this spring.
Spring cleaning tips for selling your home
1. Wash your windows
Clear the build-up of winter grime from your windows – inside and out – so they sparkle once again. Not only will it be more pleasant for you but it helps emphasise natural light for potential buyers, and improves your home’s kerb appeal.
Use glass cleaner and a rag, followed by a microfibre cloth to clear any streaks. Don’t forget to wipe down window ledges and frames as well.
2. Clean the spots you don’t usually
Those places that get overlooked during your regular cleans – now’s the time to give them some love. We’re talking door frames, skirting boards and even walls. Move furniture so you can clean behind and underneath each piece.
While these might not be areas buyers will see as they look around, it will help your home feel fresher – and save you time when it comes to the pre-move clean as well.
3. Pay special attention to key rooms
Pay particular attention to your kitchen and bathroom – these are the rooms buyers tend to focus on when viewing.
Ensure taps, handles and attachments are gleaming, wipe down all units and address any mould that may have built up over the winter. Make sure you unclog and clean your drains too, to prevent nasty smells.
4. Sort out storage areas
It’s great to have plenty of storage, but what about when those spots become overrun?
Expect viewers to open wardrobe doors and look into your nooks and crannies – they’ll be assessing the storage capabilities of your home after all.
By taking time to organise and declutter these areas, you can really showcase the storage potential on offer.
5. Clean your appliances
Whether you’re planning to sell your white goods with your home or not, now’s a great time to give your washing machine, dishwasher and fridge-freezer a thorough clean.
Replace filters as needed, too, and sort through the food in your fridge-freezer and throw away anything that’s been festering for too long.
6. Deep clean your floors
Floors are one of the first things a potential buyer will look at when they step into a room, and so it pays to make sure yours are fresh-smelling and free from unsightly stains or marks.
Give hard floors a good mop and wipe down, and have carpets deep cleaned. Don’t forget to wash your rugs too.
7. Spruce up your garden
Outside space is a huge focus for buyers and if you’re lucky enough to have it, make sure it’s looking neat and tidy.
Things to do in your garden in spring include weeding and clearing dead leaves, as well as tidying up flowerbed borders and reseeding your lawn.
Make sure you clear your decking or patio and give it a clean so viewers can easily see how they’ll be able to enjoy your garden space.
